2017 Council Candidates

  • Are you active in your community and want to do more?
  • Do you want to change things in your community?
  • Do you enjoy campaigning on local issues?
  • Are you new to the Lib Dems and want to do more locally?

If the answer to any of these questions is ‘YES,’ I’d like to invite you to stand to be a Liberal Democrat candidate at the next council election in 2017.

Whether you live in Cardiff or the Vale of Glamorgan, we need strong enthusiastic candidates to campaign for liberal policies and to fly the flag for our party. We have a record to be proud of in local government in this area. For eight years we led Cardiff Council and we will be campaigning to win back seats we lost in 2012 and to win new ones. In the Vale we have new members keen to campaign hard to make a breakthrough and win seats for the first time in many years. Since the General Election we have already gained two council seats in by-elections in Wales – this proves it can be done, so please consider putting yourself forward.

Whether you are a new member, an experienced activist or indeed a sitting councillor, if you are interested in standing the first thing you need to do is apply to become an approved candidate for the election. Once approved you can seek selection to stand as a Liberal Democrat candidate in a ward of your choice.
