Cardiff Lib Dems welcome plans for former Roath Library

I congratulate Rubicon Dance on getting the chance to convert the Roath Library building. My attention now turns to ensuring we get a proper library service back in our area as soon as possible

Cardiff Council has announced that it intends to transfer the former Roath Library to Rubicon Dance, and allow them to convert it into a community dance studio with meeting spaces for local community and dance groups.

This is an exciting time not only for Rubicon Dance, but also for our community.

I know from my involvement with Adamsdown Primary School and Adamsdown Day Centre, how much Rubicon contributes to our area already and I look forward to those links being strengthened as they expand their operation over two locations - both of which are in Adamsdown.

There were several high quality bids for the building but in the end it was Rubicon's track record of community involvement and their plans for getting more local people involved in what they do that won me over.

I congratulate them on winning the tender process and I look forward to working with them in whatever way I can to ensure their project is successfully delivered.

My attention now turns to ensuring we get a proper library service back in our area as soon as possible. To have been without a library for over two years is totally unacceptable and the Council should ensure one is now delivered without further delay.
