Lost CDs Leave Welsh Poor Highly Vulnerable

Commenting on today's reports that the personal information, including the bank details, of 7.25 million families who receive child benefits have been lost by HM Revenue and Customs, Jenny Willott MP said:

"This is a shocking mistake that could be leaving hundreds of thousands of families in Wales open to ID theft and fraud.

"The Government is right to offer full compensation for any financial fraud that may occur.

"This incident shows just how potentially vulnerable large personal data systems can be. This should sound a death-knell for the Government's ID card scheme."
