Commenting on the report from the UK Energy Research Centre that there is a significant risk that global production of oil could peak by 2020, Jenny Willott MP, Liberal Democrat MP for Cardiff Central, said:

"This report underlines how crucial it is to switch to a green economy now.

"The combined consequences of peak oil and climate change are terrifying. But the economic opportunities they present could be exciting.

"As with the industrial revolution, Wales can be engine of the next green revolution with a mammoth effort to boost renewable energy, develop a cleantech industrial base and generate thousands of new green jobs.

"After more than 10 years of shameful inaction, the Government has one last chance at the Copenhagen climate negotiations to set us on a new and sustainable path."
