SOUTH WALES GOES OFF THE RAILS FOR CHRISTMAS

Commenting on the start of a six day strike by Network Rail staff in South Wales, Jenny Willott, Welsh Liberal Democrat MP for Cardiff Central, said:

"This strike couldn't have come at a worse time.

"Regular users of South Wales rail services will quite rightly be dumbfounded at the inability of the Unions and Network Rail to come to an agreement over a relatively small change to staffing shift patterns.

"Punishing commuters is not the way to go and this strike should be called off and negotiations resumed as soon as possible."

Commenting on future planned engineering work on the South Wales to London line over the festive period, Jenny said:

"Stacking up such a large amount of engineering work for the Christmas holidays will catch many people off guard.

"While I welcome the improvements this will bring, they will cause serious disruption for many people.

"Network Rail need to properly publicise these engineering works to ensure that people trying to get home or visit friends and family over the festive period are not caught out."
