November 14, 2010 10:06 AM

Cardiff's Lib Dem-led Council has invested record sums in our local libraries since 2004 ()

Cardiff Central Library (bottom left) has recently won two awards. These are a Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) award for design and a Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) award for sustainability.
Local Liberal Democrt campaigner Nigel Howells, who helped draw up plans for the Library, said "I feel very privileged to have played a part in the design and opening of the Cardiff Central Library."
The Cardiff Central Library is located at the lower end of the Hayes. Books can be borrowed for three weeks. The library has:
• 90,000 books and 10,000 CDs and DVDs
• WiFi and a trainer PC
• A dedicated floor for children
• Over 90 computers for public use
• Reading and relaxation area and specially designed music pods - a great way to listen to music.
• Meeting rooms for hire
A stunning white grand piano is a new feature in the Library. Competent pianists who wish to play the piano can book a time slot by e-mailing centrallibrary@cardiff.gov.uk
