Willott calls for Welsh Government to intervene with AA job losses

Jenny Willott MP has expressed disappointment at the job losses that were announced yesterday (October 4th 2012) by the AA. More than 400 people who work at their Cardiff city call centre, just off Penarth Road, are to lose their jobs due to cuts being made by the company.

AA are blaming the redundancies on an increase in consumers using the internet and price comparison sites. AA have decided to centralise their insurance call centre functions at their larger operation in Newcastle.

Jenny Willott MP is calling on the Welsh Government to step in:

"I am disappointed by the decision, not only because so many jobs are being lost in Cardiff, but also because new jobs are being created in Newcastle, which is a real kick in the teeth for South Wales. I hope the AA will reconsider and place some of the new roles in Cardiff instead."

"I am calling for the Assembly Government to get involved immediately to do what they can to encourage the AA to re-think their actions."
