Jenny Willott MP urges Labour group to end leadership secrecy

Jenny Willott, MP for Cardiff Central, has urged the Labour administration at Cardiff Council to come clean on the leadership contest. Potential future leaders such as Cllr Phil Hawkins have been sworn to secrecy while the 'democratic' process of potentially electing a new leader takes place. This means the contenders are not able to explain to the residents of Cardiff how they would run the city differently, leaving the authority in a state of uncertainty about its future.

Jenny Willott said: "Only a year ago Heather Joyce and her team proudly took charge of Cardiff council and now we learn that the knives are out for her and the whole leadership team.

"Who runs Cardiff council is a matter of great importance to the people of Cardiff. This issue needs to be resolved as soon as possible so that the council can focus on providing services for the city, not petty infighting."
