Jobs campaign

The Liberal Democrats in Government have helped businesses create over one million jobs. On Saturday Jenny Willott, Liberal Democrat MP for Cardiff Central, launched the One Millions Jobs campaign in the city centre to work to create one million more. .

Jenny was joined by Cathays Liberal Democrat councillor Elizabeth Clarke and local activists Emma Sandrey, Jacqui Sullivan, Hugh Minor and Geraldine Nichols.

Volunteers collected hundreds of signatures for an Apprenticeship petition, calling on the Welsh Government to fund a programme to make businesses and young people aware of the benefits of apprenticeships.

Commenting, Jenny Willott MP said:

"Despite the terrible economic mess Labour left behind, the Liberal Democrats in Government have helped deliver one million jobs in the private sector and a further 1.2 million apprenticeships. But we know there is much more to do, which is why we are launching the One Million Jobs campaign.

"We want more people in Wales to experience the benefits of being or hiring an apprentice, but from discussions I have had with constituents, it is all too clear that at the moment the information is just not easily available.

"I spoke to one gentleman who wants to hire apprentices and has contacted the Welsh Assembly on the issue but has had no response. Similarly, I have spoken to young people who are keen to find an apprenticeship but have no idea where to start.

"Liberal Democrats are serious about job creation and building the economy, giving everybody a fair chance in life. That is why we are calling on the Welsh Government to make the system more coherent and accessible."
