Jenny Willott, Liberal Democrat MP for Cardiff Central, is encouraging her constituents to supply evidence to an inquiry into nuisance calls and text messages.

The House of Commons Culture, Media and Sport Committee today announced it is launching an inquiry to investigate abandoned (or silent) telephone calls and unwanted marketing messages which can be received by telephone or text message.

Commenting, Jenny Willott MP said:

"I know from personal experience how annoying unsolicited texts and phone calls can be. More seriously, they can also put many vulnerable and elderly people at risk of fraud just as much as if a crook or pushy salesman was turning up at their door.

"We need to tackle these intrusions head on and make it easier for people to protect their privacy, but to come up with an effective response we need to know more about the problem. That's why I'm calling on my constituents in Cardiff Central to share their own experiences of nuisance call and text messages with the inquiry."
