Jenny Willott, MP for Cardiff Central, has nominated the Churches Together Maelfa Shop and Cafe in Llanedeyrn to receive the Lloyds Community Fund £3,000 grant.

The shop and cafe was set up in the 90s to provide a place of safety and security to some of the most lonely, vulnerable and unhappy people in the community. It is staffed entirely by unpaid volunteers and all proceeds are put back towards the cost of running the place. It is open five days a week selling tea & coffee as well as second hand goods and clothing. Twice a week the shop is a distribution point for the Cardiff Food Bank.

The money will make a huge difference to the work they do, enabling them to replace a heating system and some furniture.

You can vote for the Maelfa shop at: www.lloydsbank.com/communityfund or by registering a vote at Lloyds branches in Llanishen or Whitchurch. The competition closes on November 1st.
