Jenny Willott, Liberal Democrat MP for Cardiff Central, has welcomed today's announcement of which parts of the UK have successfully won Assisted Area status. The status makes local businesses eligible to bid for additional funding and tax breaks to create jobs, invest in new premises or machinery and grow.

Eligible areas were selected based on a combination of economic need and economic opportunity. Places with the potential for business growth, particularly manufacturing, have been favoured.

Commenting Jenny Willott MP said:

"This is really exciting news for Cardiff, and demonstrates the Coalition Government's confidence in the city. I hope local businesses will take advantage of these new opportunities to bid for extra funding and support that can help them to create more jobs and grow."
