The latest unemployment figures from the Office for National Statistics show that across the UK unemployment fell by 146,000, lowering the total unemployment count to 2.02 million.

The figures show that unemployment has fallen to 6.2%, the lowest rate in six years. And average weekly earnings, excluding bonuses, in the May to July period, rose by 0.7% from a year earlier.

Commenting, Jenny Willott MP, said:

"The fall in unemployment is welcome and shows that the economy is continuing on the road to recovery. Central to the Lib Dem plans to build a stronger economy and a fairer society has been to create jobs and provide people with more opportunities to get on. We have played a key role in ensuring that our labour market is fair and flexible. There is still work to be done, but the employment growth that we are now witnessing is one of the Coalition's key achievements."
