Jenny Willott MP Big Energy Saving WeekJenny Willott, the Liberal Democrat MP for Cardiff Central, is supporting Big Energy Saving Week to help people cut hundreds of pounds from their energy bills.

Big Energy Saving Week, which runs from 20th to 24th October, is a joint campaign between the Energy Saving Trust, Department of Energy and Climate Change and Citizens advice.

The week aims to help householders take practical steps to cut their bills by checking they are on the best deal, switching tariff or supplier and saving energy through easy tips, like changing their heating controls.

New figures from the Energy Saving Trust show that households in Cardiff could save £2,950,000 by taking control of their heating and turning down the thermostat. Households could save £75 a year individually and this could save 12,000 total CO2 per year across the area.

Consumers can get tips and advice by calling the Energy Saving Advice Service on 0300 123 1234 or visiting www.bigenergysavingweek.org.uk

Commenting, Jenny Willott MP, said:

"Big Energy Saving Week is a great opportunity for residents in Cardiff Central to take action and cut their energy bills. The easiest way is to shop around for the cheapest energy deal and switch suppliers, but there are other practical steps that can help, such as learning how to use heating controls correctly and insulating your home.

"Thanks to the Coalition Government's action to reform the energy market, the number of independent suppliers has almost trebled since 2010, which is encouraging competition and driving down prices. I urge everyone to see what they could do to reduce their bills and make sure they aren't paying more than they need to."
