Dear Sir,

Small businesses are crucial to the local economy in Cardiff, so we were delighted to visit several business owners last week on Wellfield Road, to mark Small Business Saturday. We spoke with business owners, including in Central Pharmacy, Jonathan David, Home Zone, the Coffi House and Errol Willy.

A number of issues were raised, including parking, which we know is a particularly thorny issue for residents, shoppers and business owners in the area, and business rates.

Wellfield Road has a distinct personality and character, which makes it all the more important that we cherish and help small local independent businesses to thrive. Now that we know business rates are to be devolved to the Assembly, Eluned is keen to look at how they can be made fairer for small and medium sized businesses.

We hope that all our local independent retailers had a great Small Business Saturday and encourage everyone in Cardiff to support their local shops, not just in the lead up to the festive period but all year around as well.

Yours sincerely,

Jenny Willott & Eluned Parrott
