Citizens' Assembly NOW

Cardiff Liberal Democrats are calling for a Citizens' Assembly to be urgently established to tackle the big challenges facing the city and to build public support and confidence in the scale and pace of change needed as we emerge from coronavirus.

Citizens' Assemblies are a body of citizens brought together to deliberate on issues of importance, they employ a cross section of the public to study options and propose answers through rational and reasonable discussion and through inquiry of experts.

They aim to rebuild trust in the political process by enabling people to take direct ownership.

Citizens Assemblies are representative and inclusive, allow for increased cognitive diversity, breach the border of direct democracy and allow for deliberation.

I/we, the undersigned, call on Cardiff Council to establish a Citizens' Assembly to give the public the space and authority to develop solutions to those key and critical challenges facing Cardiff as a result of the coronavirus.

We will include your name and address when submitting the petition to Cardiff Council.
