The current name of the electoral ward in Cardiff which comprises the streets around both City Road and Albany Road, from Newport Road in the south to Roath Park Recreation Ground in the north, is currently known as 'Plasnewydd'. However, this is not a name that is in common usage other than by the council. Most people living in the ward consider their postal address and the area in which they live to be 'Roath'. Local Liberal Democrat campaigners believe the ward name would be better changed to 'Roath' in English and 'Y Rhath' in Welsh. This is a name that more residents would identify with, and it would also ensure there is less confusion when official communications from the council refer to the name of the area.
The Local Democracy and Boundary Commission for Wales is currently reviewing the electoral arrangements for Cardiff Council and has said it would welcome suggestions for alternative names for the ward. If you agree that the ward name should be changed to 'Roath' in English and 'Y Rhath' in Welsh then please sign the petition below.
I/we, the undersigned, call on the Local Democracy and Boundary Commission for Wales to change the name of electoral ward currently known as 'Plasnewydd' to 'Roath' in English and 'Y Rhath' in Welsh.
