Lib Dems in Cardiff are calling urgently for the government to roll out mass testing in the city, as it is revealed the city saw one of the highest number of new cases across Wales this week.
The call comes as the latest stats show a spike in positive cases in Cardiff after a period of decline, underlining the need for urgent action. Cardiff is also above the Welsh average for the number of positive cases per head of population.
Leader of Cardiff Council's Lib Dem Group Cllr Rhys Taylor said:
"Cardiff saw one of the biggest increases in positive coronavirus cases in the country this week. Urgent action is needed before the situation gets any worse.
"It is welcome that a vaccine is on the way and that plans are in place to roll that vaccine out, but the situation in Cardiff is very much heading in the wrong direction. We have to act now and roll out mass testing in Cardiff.
"To safeguard our local NHS and save lives there has to be mass testing in Cardiff."
