Jenny Willott, MP for Cardiff Central, has strongly criticised Cardiff Council for a decision to offer three senior managers a combined pay rise of £100,000 in a council shake-up.

Various new management positions have been created as part of a £1.1m senior management restructure.

Commenting, Jenny Willott MP said:

"In the midst of cuts, when people and businesses all over Cardiff have to make really difficult decisions, council pay rises of this size are simply obscene.

"Cardiff Council, led by Labour, has had no problem slashing vital services and facilities on which local people rely on the grounds that there is not enough money, and yet here they are merrily blowing literally hundreds of thousands of pounds on bureaucracy and management. It's an absolute disgrace.

"I know the individuals involved are very competent but a 73% pay rise? I don't think most people would see that as fair. Justification for the salaries was that they were so high to attract new talent but with these three being appointed internally, the Labour administration can no longer hide behind this excuse."
