The Post Office has recently given notice that the branch located within Martin's in Cyncoed Village will close on 29 July. We understand this is because McColl's Retail Group is closing the Martin's store currently located at 287 Cyncoed Road.
Whilst the Post Office has indicated its intention to seek a new site for the branch, we are conscious they made a similar indication a few years ago when the Spar store shut on Clearwater Way and the branch previously located there was then closed altogether.
Cyncoed Liberal Democrat councillors, Robert Hopkins and Bablin Molik, have therefore joined with Councillor Rodney Berman, the lead Liberal Democrat candidate for South Wales Central for the 2021 Senedd elections, to launch a petition calling on the Post Office to hold to its stated intent to retain a post office branch locally.
Cyncoed has a high proportion of elderly residents who would be disproportionately affected by the loss of the last remaining post office in the local area. The nearest alternative branches are a considerable distance away in Llanishen and Pentwyn which those without cars may find difficult to access.
Recent reductions in bus services serving Cyncoed and Lakeside also make it difficult to access other post office branches, such as the one in Albany Road in Roath.
Please help us fight to keep this vital service in Cyncoed by signing the petition below.
I/we, the undersigned, call on the Post Office to maintain a branch in the Cyncoed area. It is vital an alternative site is found locally for a branch when the Martin's store closes. The Post Office must therefore hold to its promise to identify an alternative site and ensure that residents in Cyncoed don't lose access to this important local facility.
