Rehabilitation success must be expanded to tackle record re-offending

Responding to statistics released today on violent offenders and other sex offenders under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements, Jenny Willott, Welsh Liberal Democrat Spokesperson on Home Affairs in Wales, said:

"Rehabilitation is clearly working better for the most dangerous criminals who are under the most stringent levels of supervision.

"But for the vast majority of criminals, who do not come under the same rigorous measures, re-offending is hitting new record levels.

"The message is simple and urgent. The public are safer from re-offending when tough public protection measures are employed.

"We urge the Government to extend rehabilitation programmes and stringent levels of supervision to other criminals wherever possible."
