Welsh Rail Fare Increases Defy Belief

Commenting on today's announcement that First Great Western and Arriva Trains have increased fares well above inflation, Jenny Willott MP said:

"These fare rises defy belief. Welsh commuters and passengers will wonder why they should have to pay even more to be squashed onto packed trains and when the Welsh railway network is still woefully inadequate.

"The increase in First Great Western's unregulated fares is outrageous. Rail passengers already pay more per mile than most of the rest of Europe."

"If the Government really expects to encourage people out of their cars and onto public transport, allowing these fares to rise above inflation, yet again, is completely the wrong way to go about it."
