The Gabalfa Lib Dem Focus Team are drawing residents' attention to two new planning applications in the area.

Whitchurch Road

Cllr. Ed Bridges and Gareth Holden by former BGS shop

Cllr. Ed Bridges and Gareth Holden are making residents aware of two new planning applications in Gabalfa ward.

The All Nations Churchhave put forward plans (ref: 12/493/DCI) for the former plumbing supplies shop at242 Whitchurch Road.

The application would see some outbuildings at the site demolished and then the unit extended at front and back (up to three storeys). The end result would be a cafe unit, meeting room and function room on the ground floor and three apartments on the floors above.

Cllr. Ed Bridges said: "The unit has been vacant for some time, and clearly something needs to happen here - but this is a major change, and neighbours will want to see what is being proposed."

North Road

At North Road, an application (ref: 12/578/DCI) has been submitted for 140-154 North Road, which takes in the former Musicland shop by Canada Road.

The plans show the site being changed from commercial premises to a new complex of seven flats, including a small extension to the existing footprint.

Gareth Holden said: "This is another vacant premises, and it has become something of an eyesore. The biggest challenge here will be parking though. The surrounding streets are already at capacity - and we saw from the new flats above the North Star pub that a few extra cars can cause significant problems."

Have your say

For both applications, the full plans can be seen at City Hall or via the council website.

Comments should be sent to the Chief Regulatory Services Officer, City Hall, Cardiff, CF10 3ND, quoting the relevant application number. You can also e-mail your comments to [email protected].
