Proposed improvements to Maitland Park

Gabalfa's Lib Dem councillors have secured further improvements to Maitland Park.

Work was carried out last summer and earlier this year to improve facilities at the park. This saw the addition of a new Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) as well as extra seating and new play apparatus for younger children at the bottom end of the park.

The Gabalfa Lib Dem Focus Team have now secured further improvements which will see additional planting at the 'dog leg' of the park by Laytonia Avenue, as well as further planting near to Maitland Street.

Local resident, Cllr. Ed Bridges, said: "We very much welcome these changes. The area of the park by Laytonia Avenue suffered in the past from anti-social behaviour because it was slightly secluded. The benches have now been removed from there and put in the main area of the park, and we'll now see cherry trees and bulbs planted in the area instead. Even more welcome is the proposed new drain alongside the main path, which will prevent flooding and ponding - a big help given the problems we've had in the recent wet weather!"

Local Assembly Member, Eluned Parrott, has also welcomed the investment, saying: "The investment comes to about £8,000 - that's money which local councillors have ensured will be spent on improving this park. The funds have come from planning contributions of nearby developments on North Road, and it was important that the money benefitted the local community."
