Letter to the South Wales Echo on Cardiff Bus changes

June 13, 2013 1:41 PM

Dear Sir,

I want Cardiff to have an up-to-date, comfortable, fuel-efficient bus service and I know many will appreciate Cardiff Bus upgrading its fleet.

However, I am concerned that this modernisation is coming at an unacceptable cost - Cardiff Bus has had to take a £1 million loan from the Council to pay for the upgrade, and at the same time is cutting vital routes upon which many people depend, including the X91 bus route.

It seems that my constituents will be left in a stark position: either you get a bus service in a wonderful brand-new bus or you are left with no service at all. I appreciate resources are limited and that Cardiff Bus needs to rationalise its routes to ensure it is financially viable, but surely these two extremes can't be the most sensible arrangement.

Yours faithfully,

Jenny Willott

MP for Cardiff Central
