Following news of Cardiff Council's plans to regenerate the area north and south of Central Station, Liberal Democrat MP for Cardiff Central Jenny Willott has expressed disgust at the Labour-led administration's approach to efficiency and transparency when it comes to spending hard-earned taxpayer's money.

Jenny Willott MP said:

"When Labour took over City Hall in 2012, they immediately dropped plans already drawn up by the previous Liberal Democrat/Plaid Cymru administration to redevelop the zone around Cardiff Central Station. This area certainly needs significant development, so I'm pleased the Council is finally addressing the issue, but as my colleague, Liberal Democrat group leader Judith Woodman, has pointed out, they have wasted 16 months for 'no good reason'.

"However, on top of the complete waste of time and money, what concerns me further is the Council's blatant disregard for the taxpayers paying for all this. Councillor Goodway has refused to share any details about the plans, including how much they will cost. When reporters tried to cover a meeting to scrutinise the plans on Wednesday they were ejected.

"This is yet another example of Cardiff Council failing to be transparent and open, behaving just as they did when Councillor Goodway was questioned about the council's attempt to buy land at Callaghan Square last year. The people who are going to be directly affected by these plans, and who are footing the bill, deserve to know what is going on; what does the Council have to hide?"
