Senior visit

Homeowners at Thomas Court extended a warm welcome to their local MP as they showed her round their new development in Cardiff and quizzed her on local issues.

Jenny Willott MP was given a tour of McCarthy & Stone's new Assisted Living development on Marlborough Road in the heart of Penylan before holding a question and answer session with residents.

Thomas Court, which opened in August 2013, is one of Cardiff's first Assisted Living developments. Designed exclusively for homeowners aged 70 and over, its 58 apartments offer a mix of independent living and support, with personal care and domestic assistance available for those who need it.

Ms Willott, MP for Cardiff Central, commented: "I was delighted to have the opportunity to visit Thomas Court. As Cardiff's population ages, we will need more comfortable, quality accommodation for our older people. Thomas Court is a good example of how this can be done. It was great to meet the new residents and hear about how they are settling in. Major building projects like this one, especially those in residential areas, can provoke a lot of interest from local people so it's important that these developments are done well."

Ms Willott was quizzed on topics ranging from her life in Parliament, the condition of pavements on Marlborough Road and energy prices.

Beverley Chase, Director for McCarthy & Stone who also attended the visit, said, "We've been working hard to satisfy a growing market of older people who want to downsize but don't want to lose out on comfort, convenience and companionship, and the homeowners at Thomas Court were pleased to show off their new development to Jenny."

As well as providing privately-owned apartments, facilities at Thomas Court include an on-site restaurant, shared lounge, convenient guest suite, a dedicated Estates team on-site 24 hours a day, and flexible domestic and personalised care packages for those who need a bit of extra support. There is also a secure entrance system and emergency call points.

Thomas Court has a mix of one and two bedroom apartments with prices starting at £203,950. Anyone wanting to find out more about Assisted Living in Cardiff can visit the marketing suite on Marlborough Road.
