ProfileJenny Willott, the Liberal Democrat MP for Cardiff Central, has nominated Raj Aggarwal, pharmacist, Chair of Kidney Wales Foundation, businessman and the first Honorary Consul for India with jurisdiction for Wales, for a new award scheme aimed at marking the achievements of those who have forged stronger links between the UK and India.

The Dadabhai Naoroji Awards, dedicated to the first Asian MP in the UK, were launched by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg during his visit to Mumbai in August. The awards have three categories - celebrating those who have furthered UK-Indian relations in the fields of commerce, culture and education. Winners will be presented with their awards at a ceremony hosted by Nick Clegg at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in the Autumn.

Commenting, Jenny Willott MP, said:

"Raj Aggarwal has made an exceptional contribution to building relations and creating deeper ties between India and Wales. He runs a number of businesses in South Wales, works for charities and has held a variety of public appointments.

"His appointment in 2012 as India's first ever Honorary Consul for Wales shows the enormous respect he has within our local community, and the importance he gives to looking after the needs of Indian nationals living and working in Wales.

"These awards are a fantastic opportunity to recognise Raj and others who have worked so hard over the years to strengthen India-UK relations and celebrate their achievements."
