Letter to Wales Online about my Crime Prevention meeting

October 16, 2014 6:20 PM

PortraitDear Editor,

Thank you to everyone who attended my Crime Prevention meeting with South Wales Police at Penylan Library. I would also like to thank the staff at the library for all their help on the day.

There have been a number of burglaries across Cardiff when households were targeted specifically for gold, so I decided to hold the event with the Police because a number of local residents have raised concerns about these burglaries with me.

I know that the gold that is stolen often has huge sentimental value. It is not just the financial loss that people are concerned about, it is the loss of their family heirlooms which often upsets people the most.

The meeting was very well attended and I am following up a number of the issues raised.

In particular, I am looking into the availability of safety deposit boxes as people at the meeting told us that there aren't any available at the banks in Cardiff. I will also be looking into the regulation of the gold market; as it seems rather too easy for someone to sell gold to a trader with no questions asked.

I will be getting back in touch with those who attended the meeting but if anyone else would like me to let them know progress, they can email me on [email protected] or call 02920 462276.

Yours sincerely,

Jenny Willott MP
