Cardiff Lib Dems call for support for building fire safety victims

This week Cardiff Liberal Democrats will put forward a proposal to Cardiff council to establish a Building Safety Support Hub offering specialist support to leaseholders and building owners so they can navigate their complex legal and financial situations.

A Building Safety Support Hub, presented both online and in-person, would offer specialist support to leaseholders and building owners so they can navigate their complex legal and financial situations. The Hub would also offer specialist mental health support to leaseholders.

Commenting, deader of the Liberal Democrat group Cllr Rhys Taylor said:

“Too many people in Cardiff are living in fear over their building’s safety, whilst many leaseholders are also facing crippling bills.

“People are facing extortionate bills, bankruptcy, and mental ill-health. It’s criminal that the people who live in homes affected by this scandal are left to the responsibility for the failures of others."

“While the fire safety scandal needs national action from the Welsh and UK Governments, there is no reason why Cardiff Council cannot provide a helping hand to help residents navigate the complex legal and financial challenges, as well as offering essential mental health advice and support.”
