Cardiff Liberal Democrats have called for urgent action to address the backlog in housing repairs after it was revealed that more than 12,000 repairs are outstanding.
Cardiff Liberal Democrats have said that Labour-run Cardiff Council are letting down social housing tenants after an FOI revealed that more than 12,000 repairs are waiting to be carried out.
At 31st May 2022, there were 12,111 outstanding repairs. Of those, 2,300 have been waiting to be completed for more than 6 months, and more than 1,400 for more than a year.
Commenting, Liberal Democrat group leader Cllr Rhys Taylor said:
"It's totally unacceptable that more than 12,000 repairs are waiting to be carried out by Cardiff Council.
"Week after week I receive complaints from residents who are left waiting months for housing repairs. From damp and mould causing children to be unwell, broken showers, and damaged fencing meaning children can't play in the garden.
"Nobody should have to live in poor housing conditions for months on end. Cardiff Labour-run council need to take this issue much more seriously and get to grips with this backlog."
