Cardiff Lib Dems back calls for independent investigation into death of Mohamud Mohammed Hassan

Responding to the reports that 24 year old Mohamud Mohammed Hassan died shortly after being released from Police custody at the weekend, Cardiff Liberal Democrats have joined calls for the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) to intervene.

Welsh Liberal Democrat Senedd candidate for Cardiff Central Rodney Berman said:

"This is an incredibly unsettling and troubling incident and our thoughts are with the friends, family, and communities who are hurting and are angry at this time.

"We are aware that investigations are ongoing, however we would impress on the Independent Office of Police Complaints the need for an urgent, independent investigation to understand what happened to Mohamud whilst in custody and following his release.

"The widespread media and social media response to Mohamud's death calls for nothing less than a rapid, thorough investigation that treats Mohamud, his friends and family with the dignity they deserve.

"Cardiff Liberal Democrats stand ready to offer any support to the community while investigations ongoing."
