Cardiff's Liberal Democrats have criticised Cardiff Central MP Jo Stevens' backing of Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn in today's no confidence ballot of MPs.
Stevens was one of only 40 MPs to back Corbyn, with 172 voting in favour of the motion of no confidence. Corbyn has come under fire from politicians of all stripes for his lacklustre approach to the EU referendum campaign.
Cllr Judith Woodman, Leader of Cardiff's Liberal Democrats, said:
"I'm incredibly disappointed that Jo Stevens has chosen to back Jeremy Corbyn. This is the man who's lacklustre campaigning is responsible for taking the city she's supposed to represent out of Europe against our will.
"The full effects of Brexit on Cardiff could well damage our ability as a city to compete for jobs and investment in the future. Labour's bickering is doing their party and this country no good at all.
"In contrast, Liberal Democrats are united behind our determination to take Britain back into Europe. Thousands of people have joined us since Thursday because people want to join our fight for a future in Europe. Jo Stevens' vote today shows that the only home for Remain voters in Cardiff Central is the Liberal Democrats."
