Call for action on late-night gatherings in Roath Park

A Welsh Liberal Democrat councillor and Senedd candidate is calling for action after reports from residents of repeated late-night gatherings in Cardiff’s Roath Park in apparent contravention of the current Tier 4 Coronavirus restrictions in Wales.

Councillor Rodney Berman, who represents Cardiff’s Penylan ward and is standing as the Welsh Liberal Democrat candidate for Cardiff Central at the forthcoming Senedd elections, has written to both Cardiff Council and South Wales Police asking for them to take action.

Councillor Berman said: “I have had reports from residents that there are currently regular late-night gatherings in the park by people who are playing loud music and thereby causing disturbance to nearby residents. The residents who have contacted me about this problem tell me that these gatherings have been happening on a nightly basis for over a week, and that they have been disturbed by music being played as late as 2 am.

“This in itself is unacceptable but given that we are currently in lockdown and being told by the Welsh Government that we shouldn’t be meeting up with others outside, this is nothing less than reckless. It clearly undermining our efforts to drive down the Covid-19 infection rate, putting us all at risk.

“I hope that the council and the police can now take swift action to nip this problem in the bud.”
