Pentwyn Leisure Centre was closed in March 2020 alongside every other leisure centre in Cardiff when COVID-19 arrived, but whilst all the other centres reopened, our leisure centre remained closed. We want to see it reopened.
When it was first closed, Cardiff Council and Better Leisure signed contracts with the Cardiff Blues to allow them to train here, whilst the Cardiff Arms Park and Millennium Stadium were being used as a field hospital. The Blues enjoyed using the leisure centre, invested in some of the areas they are using, and wanted to stay.
At the end of 2020, your local councillors were told that Pentwyn Leisure Centre would become a vaccine centre, but that at the end of that time, there would be a major investment the facilities. The council agreed in February 2021 to spend £5 million redeveloping the centre with a new pool, cafe, gym and other improvements. Outside they promised to build new pitches. The new plans would see the Cardiff Blues take over the running of the building replacing Better Leisure. It’s almost a year later, and very little progress seems to have been made.
We need our leisure centre back
It is almost two years since our leisure centre closed and we desperately need it back. It could be used for football, tennis, gymnastics and youth services, but instead lies empty. We want to the council to urgently reopen the leisure centre until the building work starts, so that it can be used again.

I/we, the undersigned, call on Cardiff Council to partially reopen Pentwyn Leisure Centre until building work starts, so that local people can use this community facility.
