Cardiff Liberal Democrats raise concerns following an admission that public space plans have not yet undergone equality impact assessments.

At today’s meeting (9 June) of Cardiff Council’s COVID Scrutiny Panel, councillors were informed that plans for redesigning public spaces, including plans for the the city centre and Wellfield Road, have not yet undergone equality impact assessments.

Commenting, Welsh Liberal Democrat Cllr Rhys Taylor said,

“We support every effort to hand more space over to people, giving everyone the confidence we need to access public spaces as we emerge from lockdown, and in the long-term.

“These changes must be accessible to all, or we risk alienating and shutting out people who already face huge challenges in navigating public spaces.

“We need to move quickly, but we cannot afford to cut corners.”
