Save our Shopping Streets
Rodney Berman, lead Lib Dem Senedd candidate for Caerdydd Ffynnon Taf and the Welsh Liberal Democrats have a clear plan to support local shops, protect jobs and bring pride back to communities across north and east Cardiff.
Spiralling costs, rising crime and unfair business rates have pushed many small businesses to the brink.
Cardiff deserves better.
Welsh Labour have had the opportunity to protect our Welsh shopping streets and centres but have chosen not to.
Welsh Labour have overseen the highest business rates in Wales in 26 years, more than anywhere else across the UK. This has led to one in six shops in Wales being empty in 2023 with no revival in sight.
The Welsh Liberal Democrats want to:
- Create a £400 million town centres fund to be invested in making our shopping streets and centres cleaner, safer and greener
- Demand the Welsh Government enacts an immediate 5% VAT cut for hospitality businesses to boost struggling high streets and slash prices for hard-pressed families.
- Fix unfair business rates so that local businesses can compete fairly with online giants.
