Don't remove our local Welsh-medium high school
Rodney Berman, lead Lib Dem Senedd candidate for Caerdydd Ffynnon Taf, has launched a campaign against a threat from Cardiff Council to take away a Welsh-medium high school from the east of the city.
The Labour-run council is launching a consultation on options to create a Welsh-medium high school to serve the south of the city. This is something Rodney Berman and Liberal Democrat councillors fully support.
However, an option the council is considering is to simply relocate Ysgol Bro Edern from east Cardiff to the south of the city. The council would then sell off the school's current site in Penylan's Llanedeyrn Road.
Cardiff Liberal Democrats believe a new school for the south of Cardiff should be established in addition to the city's current three Welsh-medium high schools. They do not support taking a high school away from the east of the city to instead serve the south.
Rodney Berman said: “We shouldn't be robbing Peter to pay Paul. Families in the south of the city deserve to have a local Welsh-medium high school, but so do families in the east and northeast of the city. We're therefore urging the council to rule out the option of simply relocating Ysgol Bro Edern in order to take forward plans to deliver a new Welsh-medium high school for the south of the city. Both east Cardiff and south Cardiff should have Welsh-medium high schools."

I/we, the undersigned, support Cardiff Council bringing forward plans to deliver a Welsh-medium high school for the south of the city but call on the council's leaders to rule out the option of removing the existing Welsh-medium high school, Ysgol Bro Edern, to achieve this as this would leave the east of the city without a local Welsh-medium high school.
